I'm so glad you have found this discussion board and do hope you'll take a look around and join in.

Although My Carb Sane-Asylum evolved out of my journey through low carb and beyond, my blog has attracted the readership and participation of those coming from various points of view - including diametrically opposing views.

I believe strongly that each of our individual searches for a healthy lifestyle and normal body weight is enhanced by critical thinking, continual self-examination and/or experimentation, and above all else avoidance of dogmatic echo-chambers.   Sadly, I feel such places for open discussion are limited to non-existent.  It is my hope this place begins to change this!  My blog, after all, is limited mostly to what I want to talk about and share.  So this discussion board is much more for you than for me.  What's on YOUR mind?

A Few Rules ... 

It is my sincere hope that these boards offer a variety of voices a place to be heard in a civil manner.  Despite the sometimes contentious content on my blog, I have been amazed at the civil level of discourse in my comments over the past year or so.  I'm hopeful that continues on the blog, and that spirit will carry over to these forums.

I ask that you try to be civil to one another.  Disagreements and debates can get passionate without devolving into name-calling and other put-downs.  I encourage the former - it's how we learn and challenge ourselves - I discourage the latter.  As of now I'm the only moderator and while I hope these boards will grow, I'm not hopeful to have to spend much of my time moderating them.  I also intend to moderate with a "light hand".  By this I mean that I'm not going to have a hair trigger on the delete button and ask that participants consider that someone might not have even intended to offend at times.   There's no profanity filter, but please choose your words wisely.

One drawback of the boards is that there is not an "alert" feature.  Please feel free to alert me via email of egregious content.  You can do this by clicking on my name on any post and using the Email function.

What can you post about?  Anything really.  Do be courteous and try to keep responses to other topics on the topic, though it is human nature for discussions to meander!  Consider if/when a topic of its own might be a better course.

I've set up a "Personal Forums" area.  You can have your own personal journal thread, or why not have your own "Subforum"?  I'm more than willing to set one up for you.  Give me a title and it's done!  Use it to chronicle weight loss, health issues, self-experimentation, share recipes, exercise logs, food logs, heck, your global travels for all I care!  We're WAY more than what we eat, and I'd ultimately love to have folks share other things about themselves.  Unfortunately I can't give you moderator powers in your personal forum, but I will give you indirect delete powers.  Ask for an offensive post to be deleted and it's done!  (time permitting please).

Links?  Feel free to link to your personal blog or website in your signature.  Feel free to link to posts on other sites, blogs, etc. so long as it is for the purpose of discussion here.  For example a running chronicling of your recent blog posts for others to "go read" is not what I have in mind!   It's even OK to link to a commercial site (e.g. one promoting your business) so long as you are participating and not just trying to drive business.
